Cuttack, August 19: A man has been arrested from Andhra Pradesh by Narasinghpur police for allegedly leaking and circulating intimate photographs of a woman on social media platforms.
The accused, identified as Bikash Kumar Mohanty, a resident of Ratapat village under Badamba police station limits, reportedly took private photos of the woman and demanded ₹50,000 from her, threatening to release the images online if she failed to pay. He is also accused of creating a fake Instagram account to upload and spread the photos.
Acting on a written complaint filed by the victim at Narasinghpur police station, a special police team was dispatched to Andhra Pradesh. The team successfully traced and apprehended the accused, who has since been brought back to Odisha and produced before a local court.
Providing details of the case at a press briefing, Narasinghpur IIC Bhawani Shankar Khuntia confirmed the arrest and stated that further investigation is underway.
The case highlights growing concerns around digital harassment and misuse of social media platforms for blackmail and exploitation.
