Malkangiri, Nov 5: Police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district detained a youth for allegedly raping a minor girl after serving her a spiked drink, officials said on Tuesday.

The detained accused has been identified as Debu Barui and the incident has been reported from Padmagiri area under Model police station limits in the district.

According to sources, the minor girl along with Debu and one of his friends had gone on a motorcycle trip to the Jaduguda Shiva Temple in Sadar block and later went to a nearby forest. There, the accused allegedly served an intoxicant-laced drink to the victim and allegedly raped her with the help of his friend.

After learning about the incident, the girl’s family lodged a complaint following the police swung into action and detained the accused.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, said Inspector-in-Charge of Malkangiri police station Regan Kindo.
