Bhubaneswar, August 10: Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 12 as a Low Pressure Area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

According to the IMD’s evening weather bulletin, the weather system is likely to trigger isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha between August 12 and 14.

The IMD said an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas continues to persist. The circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region around August 12.

Meanwhile, the Monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to run from Bikaner through Datia, the centre of the Low Pressure Area over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas, Daltonganj and Digha before extending southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The trough extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, the weather office said.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, which is very likely at one or two places in several districts of Odisha until August 18.

An orange warning has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in the state onAugust 12, 13, 14 and 15.
