Bhubaneswar, Jul 3: In a strategic push to enhance its tourism potential, the Odisha government has identified 15 'priority destinations' across the state for focused infrastructure development and private sector investment.
The selected sites encompass rich ecological landscapes and heritage zones, including iconic locations such as Hirakud, Kolab, Chilika, Satkosia, Similipal, Bhitarkanika, Satpada, Deomali, and Kotpad.
To encourage eco-friendly tourism initiatives, land banks have been earmarked at these locations. The proposed developments include nature camps, heritage homestays, water sports facilities, tribal cultural centres, and adventure tourism trails. The overarching goal is to create local employment opportunities, attract more tourists, and ensure sustainable development without disrupting the ecological balance.
According to officials from the Department of Tourism, the priority zones were selected based on a comprehensive assessment of ecological value, tribal heritage, adventure tourism potential, and existing gaps in infrastructure. The initiative is a part of Odisha’s broader vision to establish itself as India’s premier eco-tourism destination while promoting inclusive growth through community participation andThe state will invite proposals through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and a streamlined single-window clearance mechanism will be implemented to expedite project approvals and execution.
This initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to responsible tourism that not only showcases the state’s natural and cultural treasures but also fosters livelihood opportunities and sustainable economic development.
