Odisha faces rising summer heat before anticipated rain

Titlagarh emerged as the hottest location in the state today, recording a maximum temperature of 39.5°C as summer conditions tighten their grip over the region. Data released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar indicates that while western districts are experiencing intense heat, Phulbani remains the coolest spot with a minimum of 18.5°C. Residents in the coastal belt are also feeling the burn, with Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recording highs of 37.5°C and 36.4°C respectively.

Rising Heat and Local Rain

Gajapati district provided a rare break from the dry spell, with Mohana recording 3.6 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Historically, April marks the beginning of the "Kalbaishakhi" (Nor'wester) season in Odisha, where localized thunderstorms often provide temporary relief from the punishing pre-monsoon heat. Current readings show that most stations are hovering around or slightly above their normal seasonal averages.

Seven Day Forecast for Twin Cities

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are set to witness a consistent weather pattern over the coming week. Forecasters predict partly cloudy skies with a persistent possibility of rain or thunderstorms every day through April 8. While day temperatures in the capital city will likely stay around 37°C to 38°C, Cuttack might see a slight dip to 35°C by early next week.

Mercury Expected to Drop

Maximum temperatures across the state will remain stable for the next three days. However, the weather office has issued a promising update for those seeking relief from the heat. A significant drop of 2°C to 4°C in daytime temperatures is expected after the initial 72-hour period, likely triggered by increased moisture inflow and thunderstorm activity across various districts.
