Bhubaneswar, Sep 5: The Orissa High Court has issued a notice to Kantabanjhi BJP MLA Laxman Bag in connection with an election-related matter. The notice, served through a special messenger, was delivered on Wednesday.
The case has been initiated by Giriraj Singh, a voter from the Kantabanjhi Assembly constituency, who has accused MLA Laxman Bag of making false statements in his election affidavit. Singh claimed that MLA Bag's affidavit contained misleading information regarding his background. The petitioner has requested that the court declare the candidature of the BJP MLA invalid.
Advocates Gopal Agrawal and Suryashi Shribastav are representing the petitioner in this case. On Wednesday, Justice Anand Chandra Behera presided over the hearing and scheduled the next session for September 27.
Kantabanjhi's Assembly seat drew widespread attention in the last general election when Laxman Bag secured a surprising victory over five-time Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
