Cuttack, Aug 26: The Orissa High Court has issued fresh guidelines for Dussehra celebrations in Cuttack, putting safety and civic convenience at the forefront.
In its order, the court barred the construction of excessively tall gates, arches, and elaborate light structures, citing risks posed during last year’s celebrations when heavy rains and strong winds led to gate collapses, damaging vehicles and even causing electric shocks.
To ensure proper checks, the Cuttack District Collector has been directed to monitor gate heights and safety standards. Puja committees will now need to seek permission through a single-window clearance system and submit detailed design drawings of gates in advance.
The court has also acted firmly on noise control, mandating that sound levels during the festivities must not exceed 65 decibels. Alongside, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has been instructed to strictly prohibit the forcible collection of puja donations.
In addition, the bench expressed dissatisfaction over the poor state of city roads and directed the authorities to carry out urgent repairs before the festival begins.
With these measures, this year’s Dussehra in Cuttack is set to be celebrated under tighter rules to ensure safety, orderliness, and a hassle-free experience for citizens.
