Odisha: Group clash over river mouth excavation rocks Ganjam, 40 arrested

Berhampur, Mar 11: As many as seven people sustained grievous injuries and 40 people were arrested after a violent group clash erupted between two villages in Chikiti notified area council (NAC) of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to reports, the clash broke out when villagers from Ramayapatna started digging at the Bahuda River mouth, leading to group clash with nearby Katuru villagers on Monday. Five people from Katuru village and three from Ramayapatna village were injured.
All the injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Five of them were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as their health condition deteriorated.
Upon getting the information, Golanthara police arrived at the scene and swung into action. The cops arrested a total of 40 people—19 from Kuturu and 21 from Rameyapatna over the violent clash.
To maintain law and order situation and prevent further unrest in the region, the authorities have clamped a prohibitory order under Section 163 on BNS and deployed three platoons of police force in the affected areas.
Two separate cases were registered at the Golanthara police station regarding the conflict.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
