Bhubaneswar, Mar 19: Ahead of the state's Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, Bhubaneswar Traffic Police have escalated their crackdown on traffic violators, particularly those flouting traffic signals.
The stringent penalties await drivers caught disregarding traffic signals. Offenders will face a three-month suspension of their driving licenses and will be subject to legal proceedings.
Addressing the press, Bhubaneswar Traffic DCP PK Rout announced the commencement of the first phase of operations targeting traffic violators across various key junctions in the city, including AG Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Laxmisagar Square, and Khandagiri Square. The primary focus lies on deterring individuals from running red lights.
DCP Rout outlined the measures against offenders, including vehicle seizure, driver's license suspension, and legal action. Additionally, recommendations will be made to the RTO for the three-month suspension of erring driver's licenses per the law.
The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police have actively conducted awareness campaigns on traffic regulations and imposed penalties on violators, amassing a total of Rs 186.04 crore in fines from traffic rule violators between 2020 and 2023.
