Balangir, Feb 20: In a heartbreaking turn of events, a government school teacher in Odisha’s Balangir district has sought a one-day leave to work as a labourer after going three months without pay.
As per reports, Prabhudatta Sahoo, an Assistant Teacher (ex-cadre) at Bandhanbahal Primary School in Puintala block of the district, submitted his leave application on Wednesday, explaining that his financial situation had worsened due to the prolonged salary delay.
With no other option, he requested leave for February 20 to earn a day’s wages as a laborer—an unusual yet telling request that the headmaster approved.
District administration officials have yet to respond to the matter.
