Bhubaneswar, September 29: The Odisha Government has released Rs 10 crore to four flood-hit districts – Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati and Jharsuguda.

While the highest Rs 5 crore has been released for Nabarangpur district, Ganjam and Gajapati have has been allotted Rs 2 crore each and Jharsuguda has been provided with Rs 1 crore.

In a letter to the Collectors of the four district, Special Relief Commissioner asked them to expedite the disbursal process of the allotted funds to ensure that relief assistance reach the eligible beneficiaries.

The funds allotment has been done under the House Building Assistance, Crop Loss Assistance and relief Camp Expenditure.

"You are, therefore, requested to expedite the disbursal of these funds. Please ensure the timely provision of admissible relief assistance to eligible beneficiaries, strictly in accordance with the prescribed norms and guidelines,” Additional Special Relief Commissioner Padmanav Behera wrote.

On Sunday, Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Ganjam, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts. He also visited inundated pockets in Kotpad - among the worst-hit blocks of Koraput district - where he met affected families and reviewed relief measures.

The latest deep depression over the Bay of Bengal brought very heavy rainfall to several parts of the state, causing landslide, flooding and waterlogging in 13 districts across southern, coastal and western Odisha.

Collectors of the affected districts will submit their reports, after which steps will be taken to provide compensation and other assistance on a priority basis.

More than one lakh people have been moved from low-lying areas and sheltered at over 500 relief centres.
