Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The Odisha Board of Revenue has ordered that more than 11 acres of disputed land near the Konar Sun Temple, valued at over ₹110 crore, be restored to the state government.
The land, located in front of the iconic monument, had been at the centre of a prolonged legal dispute over ownership and revenue records.

The ruling, delivered by Board of Revenue Member Satyabrata Sahu, set aside a 1989 order of the Commissioner of Land Records and Settlement, while allowing two revision petitions filed by the Puri Collector with the approval of the state government.
Authorities have also been directed to immediately restore the land to government records after carrying out necessary corrections.
The case revolved around the legality of old pattas (land grants) and subsequent revenue entries through which private ownership claims had been established. After examining historical records, maps, settlement documents and legal provisions, the Board concluded that long possession, payment of land revenue or later revenue records alone could not establish lawful ownership unless the original transfer itself was legally valid.

The Board also directed officials to verify land boundaries, maps and government roads in the area, ensuring that all public property is properly recorded and protected.
