Bhubaneswar, May 15: The Odisha government is considering legal action against West Bengal for naming a new temple in Digha as “Jagannath Dham,” a title traditionally associated with Puri, a key Hindu pilgrimage site.

Law Minister Harichandan stated that despite CM Mohan Charan Majhi’s request, the West Bengal government has not removed the “Jagannath Dham” signboard. Legal proceedings are now being planned.

The move has drawn widespread criticism from religious authorities.

Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, and others have objected, emphasizing that “Jagannath Dham” refers exclusively to Puri and its usage elsewhere misleads devotees and disrespects spiritual heritage.
