Bhubaneswar, AUg 5: The Odisha government has appointed Shovana Mohanty as the new Chairperson of the State Commission for Women (SCW). The position had remained vacant since the removal of Minati Behera in November last year.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development, Mohanty, a native of Karanjia in Remuna Block of Balasore district, will serve a three-year term beginning August 5, 2025.
In a separate appointment, the state government also named Babita Patra as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR). Patra hails from Mayur Vihar, Somnath Nagar in Berhampur. She will hold the position for three years from the date of assuming office, or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.
Additionally, six new members have been appointed to the OSCPCR for a term of three years or until they turn 60, whichever is earlier.
The appointed members are:

Kalpana Lenka – Basanti Colony, Rourkela
Chandana Das – Badagada Brit Colony, Bhubaneswar
Kasturi Mishra – Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar
Manasmita Khuntia – Charampa, Bhadrak
Sujata Nayak – Bomikhal, Bhubaneswar
