Bhubaneswar, May 25: Hari Babu Kambhampati on Sunday expressed deep grief over the tragic drowning incident in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, where eight members of a single family lost their lives while collecting black clams at Tatthehakalu beach near Bhatkal.
Taking to X, the Odisha Governor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength for them to bear the irreparable loss. He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the mishap.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath give strength to the grieving families and bless the injured with a speedy recovery,” the Governor posted.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah also mourned the heartbreaking incident, saying the death of eight members from a single family had left him deeply distressed.
The Karnataka Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased. He further informed that search operations were underway to trace those reported missing in the accident.
In a statement posted on X, Siddaramaiah said the incident was “extremely tragic and painful” and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
“On humanitarian grounds, the state government will provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who died in the disaster. Intensive search operations are continuing for those still missing. Let us all pray that they return safely and reunite with their loved ones,” he added.
