Bhubaneswar, Aug 23: Following the death of two persons due to alleged toxic country liquor in Ganjam, the Odisha government is all set to close dance bars soon.
It was revealed as Odisha Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan asserted a total ban on dance bars in the state on Friday, responding to the sharp criticism of the leaders from opposition parties.
Harichandan said, “The dance bars across the state will be will be shut soon. Illegal liquor shops being run on government lands will also be razed.
Excise vigil will be intensified to crackdown the network of illicit liquor trade mushrooming almost every where,” he said during the adjournment motion in the state Assembly.
The Minister further informed that a new excise policy will be introduced in tune with ‘Odia Asmita’. “No liquor shops will be allowed near near religious institutions, schools, colleges and other educational institutions,” Harichandan added.
