Bhubaneswar, June 29: Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic stampede during the Rath Yatra in Puri, Gajapati Maharaj Divyasingha Deb on Sunday called for a swift and thorough investigation into the incident.
The ceremonial king of Puri and chairman of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee (SJTMC) urged the Odisha government to take urgent measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
In an official statement issued by his office, Gajapati Maharaj appealed for a “prompt and comprehensive inquiry” into the circumstances that led to the stampede, which claimed three lives and left several others injured near the Shree Gundicha Temple.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the stampede that occurred last night. My prayers are with the departed souls, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” the Gajapati said.
He emphasized the need for immediate corrective action to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees participating in the annual chariot festival.
