
Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: Odisha is grappling with a major shortfall in its administrative and civil service personnel, with 182 positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFS) currently lying vacant.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi shared this information in the Assembly on Monday in response to a query from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Arun Sahoo.
According to the data presented in the House, the total sanctioned strength for IAS, IPS, and IFS officers in the state stands at 584. However, only 402 of these posts are currently filled.
In the IAS cadre, 203 officers are in position out of a sanctioned 248, leaving 45 vacancies. The IPS cadre is facing a shortfall of 66 officers, with only 129 of the 195 sanctioned posts filled. The IFS faces the most critical gap, with just 70 officers serving against a sanctioned strength of 141, resulting in 71 vacancies.
The Chief Minister noted that the state government has already approached the Centre, urging it to take immediate steps to fill these vacancies to ensure the smooth functioning of the state's administrative machinery.
