Bhubaneswar, June 17: Odisha Vigilance has on Tuesday arrested Amarendra Satapathy, a Sub Inspector (SI) of Excise, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8,000 in Khordha district.

Satapathy, who was serving as the In-Charge of the Tangi Excise Station, was apprehended while allegedly receiving a bribe from a licensed liquor vendor. According to officials, the SI had been demanding a monthly payment of ₹8,000 to refrain from taking action against the vendor and to allow uninterrupted operation of his business.

Following repeated demands and threats, the aggrieved vendor complained to the Vigilance Department. Acting on the tip-off, the department laid a trap, leading to Satapathy's arrest and the recovery of the entire bribe amount from his possession.

In the aftermath of the arrest, simultaneous raids were conducted at three locations, including Satapathy’s native place in Jatani, to investigate allegations of disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against him at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Further investigation is currently underway.
