Bhubaneswar, May 19: Amidst the twin polls in Odisha, former Minister and Nimapara MLA Samir Ranjan Dash today resigned from the primary membership of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Dash tendered his resignation letter to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

In a video message, Dash said that the BJD leaders have lost confidence on me and the party organisations in Gop and Nimapara. Therefore, I resigned from the primary membership of the party today.

Notably, Dash had successfully contested the Assembly polls in 2009, 2014, and 2019 from Nimapara Assembly constituency on BJD ticket. He has also served as the School and Mass Education Minister in the Naveen Patnaik’s Cabinet.

However, the conch party denied him ticket from Nimapara and nominated to Dilip Nayak who had recently switched from the BJP.

Since then, Samir had been advocating for a change in decision and also organized numerous public meetings to showcase his influence in the constituency, but in vain.
