Odisha: Decomposed body of missing female constable found in jungle, boyfriend confesses to murder

Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: In a shocking turn of events, the decomposed body of 25-year-old traffic constable Subhamitra Sahoo, who had been missing since September 6, was recovered from a jungle in Odisha's Keonjhar district today.

Police have arrested her alleged boyfriend Deepak Rout, who is also her colleague at the Police Commissioner’s Office, in connection with the murder. During course of interrogation, he confessed to strangling Subhamitra to death following a dispute.

As per reports, Subhamitra, a resident of Pichukuli village under the Khurda town police limits, had gone missing on the evening of September 6 after completing her shift at the Commissionerate Police. She was last seen heading home around 7 pm, but never returned. Her family became concerned when they were unable to reach her, as her mobile phone was also switched off. After several failed attempts to contact her, her father Durjyodhan Sahoo filed a missing person’s report with the Capital Police Station. In the complaint, he expressed suspicion that Deepak might be involved.

At the time, Subhamitra had been in regular contact with Deepak, which raised concerns about their relationship. The police launched an investigation, focusing on tracking Subhamitra's last known movements. During the investigation, police examined Subhamitra’s call records, which revealed that she had been in frequent communication with Deepak in the days leading up to her disappearance. With this lead, the police were able to track the location of her last phone call, which pointed to Keonjhar.

A special squad from the Commissionerate Police, along with local police from Keonjhar, launched a search operation and soon recovered Subhamitra's body in a dense forest near Kusunpur in Ghatagaon.

During questioning, Deepak initially denied any involvement in the crime. However, under intense interrogation, he eventually confessed to strangling Subhamitra during a dispute. Deepak revealed that after killing her, he transported her body in his vehicle from Bhubaneswar and buried it in the forest of Ghatagaon in Keonjhar.

Police have seized the vehicle used in the crime and are continuing their investigation to uncover the full details of the incident.
