Bhubaneswar, August 6: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the tragic death of a 19-year-old College girl in Pattamundai, Kendrapara district, who allegedly took her own life by self-immolation.
The panel, headed by OPCC Vice President Sasmita Behera and comprising several senior leaders, will visit the site of the incident and prepare a detailed report. The committee aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the incident, with a focus on the alleged police negligence.
According to reports, the deceased, an undergraduate student, resorted to the extreme step after her former boyfriend threatened to circulate her private photos on social media. The victim’s father alleged that despite approaching the police six months ago, their FIR was not registered. Instead, they were advised to block the accused’s number.
Reacting to the public outrage, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria has assured a thorough investigation and promised personal oversight into the matter. The police have launched a probe to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
