Bhubaneswar, July 6: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Sunday praised Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee for his contributions to Indian education, culture, and the nation’s sovereignty, on occasion of his 125th birth anniversary.
Attending the state-level birth anniversary celebrations at Jayadev Bhawan, CM Majhi described the day as a "Day of Determination, Inspiration, and Awareness."
The event was organized by the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, along with the Department of Information and Public Relations.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi stated that Dr. Mukherjee’s life was a gift to the nation, providing inspiration and ideals to every citizen of India. During the first half of the 20th century, when many great leaders came forward to uplift Indian education, culture, tradition, and nationalism, Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee was at the forefront. He was not just an educated individual but also a dedicated national leader, a visionary thinker, and a patriot.
‘Jana Sangha’, formed by Dr. Mukherjee, later transformed into the BJP. He is recognized as the founding father of the BJP. His ideological and cultural nationalism became the core principle of today’s Bharatiya Janata Party. He was firm in his belief that Kashmir is an integral part of India and that no special provision was needed for it. His slogan, "Do Vidhan, Do Pradhan, Do Nishan, Nahi Chalega" (Two Constitutions, Two Heads, Two Flags, will not work), continues to resonate in the hearts of every Indian today, said CM Majhi.
He further stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the first year of his second term, has abrogated Article 370 and Section 35A of the Constitution. This bold step by PM Modi is not only beneficial for the country but also the greatest tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The dreams and struggles of Dr. Mukherjee have been fulfilled by PM Modi. The nation is always proud of such great leaders like Dr. Mukherjee.
Development is taking place both in the state and the country, and this growth is being inclusive, bringing every section of society together, and further strengthening the process, he added.
In conclusion, the Chief Minister stated that our youth power is the future of the country. Today, on the occasion of the completion of one year of the state government's initiatives, youth development programs are being carried out across Odisha.
He emphasized that politics without ethics, governance without ideals, and independence without patriotism are mere illusions. Through sacrifice and service, we will shape our future. As we are building a new Odisha today and moving towards a powerful India, Dr. Mukherjee's principles and vision are guiding us on the right path.
Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, who attended the event as esteemed guest, addressed Dr. Mukherjee as one of the greatest personalities in history, while Steel and Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena stated that Dr. Mukherjee is a symbol of India's unity.
On this occasion, along with the Chief Minister, other distinguished guests inaugurated a photo exhibition gallery based on the life of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture also presented a short film on Dr. Mukherjee.
During the event, CM Majhi awarded the winners of the debate competition, with students from colleges and schools being recognized for their achievements.
Before the event, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhi, along with CM Majhi and other distinguished individuals paid floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Mukherjee at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Park at Satsang Bihar in Bhubaneswar.
