Odisha CM reaffirms revival of all ‘Bhagavat Tungis’

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Sunday said that the state government is committed to ensuring the presence of ‘Bhagavat Gita’ in every Odia household and the revival and re-establishment of Bhagavat Tungis in every village across the state.

CM Majhi made the statement while participating in the Srimad Bhagavat Mahotsav organized today by the Dharma Jagaran Samiti at Terapanth Bhavan on Cuttack Road in Bhubaneswar.

He also said that the youth are playing a vital role in the overall development of today’s society, and that Bhagavat recitation can serve as a powerful medium to guide them on the right path.

During his address at the event, CM Majhi stated that the ‘Srimad Bhagavat’ scripture, along with its invaluable teachings on tradition, devotion, and dharma, connects the common people with spiritual practices and divine service. From this perspective, such a Mahotsav holds great significance for our society.

He further explained that the importance of the Srimad Bhagavat lies in its foundation on five core principles—Ishwar (the Supreme Being), Jiva (the soul), Prakriti (nature), Kaal (time), and Karma (action)—which govern the functioning of this universe. Therefore, in the Sanatan tradition, it is considered the final wish of every devotee to listen to the Srimad Bhagavat before taking their last breath.

Since 2014, there has been a resurgence of Indian culture and traditions in the country, driven by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has emphasized, “Development also means heritage.” He has not confined this idea to just a slogan or sentiment.

Proof of this is seen in significant projects such as the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Temple, the record influx of 68 crore devotees at the Kumbh Mela, and the development of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and Mahakal Corridor.

He further stated that since the very beginning, the state government has been taking various initiatives to preserve Odia culture and traditions as well as to promote and spread them. Recently, financial assistance ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,01,000 has been provided to all the ancient and heritage-rich Durga Puja pandals in the state, which is a first in Odisha.

Whether it is the Sheetala Sasthi Yatra or the Dhanu Yatra, the government is providing financial support for the security and beautification of temples and shrines across Odisha. This important work will continue in the coming days, he added.
