Bhubaneswar, May 20: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed profound grief over the passing of two stalwarts in the field of science—renowned nuclear scientist Dr. M.R. Srinivasan and eminent astrophysicist Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar.
Paying tribute to Dr. Srinivasan, who passed away at the age of 95 in Udhagamandalam, Tamil Nadu, CM Majhi described him as a “towering figure in India’s nuclear journey” and a “visionary technocrat.” Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister wrote,
“We mourn the loss of Dr. M.R. Srinivasan, a towering figure in India’s nuclear journey and a visionary technocrat. His contributions to atomic energy and national self-reliance will inspire generations. Heartfelt condolences to his family and the scientific community. Om Shanti.”
Dr. Srinivasan was instrumental in shaping India’s civil nuclear energy programme, with a distinguished career at the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) that began in 1955 and spanned over five decades.
In a separate message, CM Majhi also condoled the death of Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, hailing him as a "legendary astrophysicist, visionary thinker, and tireless science communicator."
Sharing his tribute on X, the Chief Minister said,
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, a legendary astrophysicist, visionary thinker, and tireless science communicator. His pioneering work and commitment to a scientific temper enriched generations. Heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”
Both scientists were widely respected for their groundbreaking work and lifelong dedication to advancing India's scientific progress.
