Bhubaneswar, July 22: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has dismissed two government officials who were convicted in corruption cases.

According to an official statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Tuesday, the two officials — a senior medical officer and a supply inspector — were terminated from their services following their convictions in separate vigilance cases.

One of the dismissed officers, Dr. Karunakar Rout, was serving as a senior medical officer in the Department of Mental Health and Cancer Care at the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak. The vigilance department had earlier filed a corruption case against him during his tenure as a medical officer at the Madhuban Community Health Centre in Jajpur district. Following the initiation of the vigilance case, departmental proceedings were also launched against him. After a thorough investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, Rout was found guilty of corruption, leading to his dismissal from government service.

The name and details of the second official — a supply inspector — are expected to be released separately. However, the CMO confirmed that similar legal and departmental action was taken following a vigilance investigation and conviction.

Chief Minister Majhi’s firm action is being seen as part of a broader effort to cleanse the state administration of corrupt practices and send a clear message to government employees across Odisha. Chief Minister has reportedly directed all departments to expedite pending disciplinary cases related to corruption.
