Odisha CM Majhi inaugurates "Ekta Padayatra" at Nilgiri, Balasore

Bhubaneswar, November 13:  Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated the Ekta Padayatra at Nilgiri in Balasore district to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. The event saw hundreds of students, youth, and officials participating in a 9-kilometer march carrying a 100-foot tricolor flag from Nilgiri to Mitrapur, promoting national unity as part of the Ekta Year celebrations.

Before the padayatra, CM Majhi offered prayers at the Jagannath Temple in Nilgiri and launched a photo exhibition at the Police Parade Ground, highlighting the district's role in the freedom struggle and Sardar Patel’s contributions.

In his address, Majhi described the padyatra as a symbol of Indian unity and a reminder of citizens' responsibility to uphold national integrity. He emphasized the significance of Nilgiri in the freedom movement, particularly the Nilgiri Praja Movement, which united people against British oppression and highlighted the strength of collective action.

The Chief Minister called for unity across diverse groups, stressing that the nation's strength lies in its unity in diversity. He also highlighted the government's commitment to youth welfare, urging them to contribute to the nation's progress.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, MLA Padma Lochan Panda, and State Women’s Commission Chairperson Shovana Mohanty.
