Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday launched the ‘Mission Shakati Scooter Yojana’ at a function held at Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Center in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, “Today marks the pivotal moment in the journey of women's empowerment. Hope the scooter scheme will make commuting easier for mothers. It will also bring new opportunities in the professional field. Women are doing a great job and I believe they will do even better now. The government is providing a generous interest subsidy of Rs 528 crore. Over 2 lakh Mission Shakti mothers and grassroots staff will benefit from this program, with more than 15,000 already receiving their scooters today.”
The 'Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana' aims to provide crucial mobility support to Community Support Staff (CSS) and EC (Executive Committee) members of women SHG by facilitating their access to scooters.
Under this scheme, eligible individuals will benefit from full interest subvention on bank loans up to Rs 1 lakh to purchase a scooter of their choice, making the transition to sustainable mobility more affordable and accessible than ever before.
By providing Mission Shakti Federation Leaders and CSS with affordable access to two-wheelers, the initiative will enhance their ability to carry out their responsibilities effectively, promote efficiency, and expand their outreach within the community.
Around 75,000 Community Support Staff (CSS) and nearly 1, 25,000 federation leaders will benefit under the new scheme.
“The launch of the Mission Shakti Scooter Scheme is a milestone step. About 15,000 Mission Shakti mothers have taken scooters under the scheme”, said Mission Shakti Secretary Sujatha Karthikeyan.
