Koraput, Aug 10: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday inaugurated a 650-bedded specialized hospital at the Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, built at a cost of 280 crore rupees.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Majhi announced that a six-lane Jeypore-Berhampur-Bhubaneswar Economic Corridor will be constructed very soon.
He also announced that all the vacant healthcare positions at the Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital will be filled.
CM Majhi said that the state government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the people of Koraput no longer need to travel long distances for healthcare. The new medical college and hospital will not only serve Koraput but also benefit neighboring districts like Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, as well as nearby states such as Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The facility will provide a comprehensive range of modern medical services.
Providing corruption-free governance alongside development is our duty. Since coming to power, our government has prioritized improving the quality of education and healthcare services in the state. Vacant positions in the healthcare sector, which have remained unfilled for years, are being promptly addressed. Currently, there are 12 government medical colleges in the state. Soon, four more medical colleges will be established in the districts of Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Nabarangpur, said CM Majhi.
Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital provides a range of medical services for patients, including advanced diagnostic facilities like CT scans, dialysis, and mammography. To ensure a steady supply of oxygen for critical patients, a dedicated oxygen plant is being established. Furthermore, a cancer treatment center is being built on a 2-acre site adjacent to the hospital. The government has allocated around Rs 41.15 crore for this project, he added.
