Cuttack, Sept 18: A baby crocodile was rescued from the Kathajodi River bank near CDA area in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the baby crocodile, said to be around four months old, was rescued by the forest department. Following its rescue, the baby croc was taken to the City Forest Range office for a health checkup. Once its health is assessed, officials will determine where to release the reptile. The origin of the crocodile and how it ended up on the riverbank are still under investigation.
“We rescued a baby Gharial crocodile from the bank of the Kathajodi River. The operation was conducted in collaboration with officials from the Cuttack City Forest Division and crocodile experts from Nandankanan Zoological Park. After a thorough health check, a decision will be made regarding the crocodile's release”, informed Cuttack City Forest Range Officer Rashmirekha Parida.
Worth noting, a Gharial crocodile was spotted in the Kathajodi River in Cuttack a month ago. The crocodile around 8 to 10 feet long was found lying on sand in the middle of the river for over an hour.
The unusual presence of crocodiles in Kathajodi has created panic among the riverfolks and locals who are used to the river for daily activities.
