Bhubaneswar, July 21: Following its debacle in the recently concluded twin polls in the state, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday dissolved the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) in an effort to restructure the party and appointed Potangi MLA Ramachandra Kadam as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
The AICC President approved the proposal for complete dissolution, which affects the PCC president, office bearers, executive committee, district/block/mandal congress committees, frontal organisations, departments, and cells. This decision was announced in an official AICC release today.
In the interim, current district committee presidents will serve as acting presidents until further notice. This restructuring comes in the wake of Odisha Congress's continued struggle as an opposition party, securing only 14 Assembly seats in this year's elections. Under the leadership of Sarat Pattanayak, the party also managed to retain just one MP seat from Koraput in the Lok Sabha polls.
On the other hand, AICC also appointed senior leader and Potangi MLA Ramachandra Kadam as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. The grand old party also named Basudevpur MLA Ashok Das as the deputy leader, while Rajgangpur MLA CS Raazen Ekka has been appointed as the party chief whip. These appointments have been approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
The AICC issued a release confirming the new leadership roles.
