Sundargarh, Apr 5: Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Odisha Assemby Elections, senior BJD leader Santosh Kumar Amat today resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Amat did not mention any reason behind his move. However, it is assumed that ‘continuous negligence’ in the party and ‘denial of tickets’ to contest the polls are the reasons behind his resignation.
According to sources, Amat was upset with BJD supremo’s decision to field former MLA Jogesh Singh and Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey as party’s candidates from Sundargarh Assembly and Lok Sabha seats respectively as he was aspiring to contest the polls from either of the seats.
Notably, Amat had stepped into politics after quitting Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and contested the 2014 elections from Talsara Assembly seat on a BJP ticket. However, he lost to Congress’ Prafulla Majhi.
Later in the 2019 elections, he aspired to contest the polls from Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat and had started campaign. However, the conch party disappointed him and chose former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal’s daughter Sunita Biswal as its candidate.
