Berhampur, June 12: In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the Berhampur Police launched a two-day special drive targeting drunken driving, triple riding, and mobile phone usage while riding. The enforcement campaign, conducted across all police stations in the Berhampur Police district on June 10 and 11, resulted in the detection of 73 violations.
Out of the total, 26 individuals were found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the permissible limit. Criminal cases have been registered against these offenders, and their vehicles have been seized.
Simultaneously, police also took strict action against triple riding and mobile phone usage while driving, identifying 47 such violations. Similar to the drunken driving cases, FIRs have been lodged and the violators' vehicles were impounded.
A breakdown of the drunken driving cases reveals that:
- Traffic Police detected 9 cases,
- Badabazar Police Station recorded 5 cases,
-Town Police Station registered 4 cases,
- Jarada Police Station reported 3 cases, and
- Digapahandi Police Station found 2 cases.
The Berhampur Police have urged all citizens to strictly adhere to traffic laws and cooperate with authorities to ensure safer roads for all. The department reiterated its commitment to regular enforcement drives and warned of continued legal action against violators.
"Road safety is everyone's responsibility. We request the public to avoid dangerous practices like drunken driving and triple riding, which endanger lives," a senior police official said.
The drive is part of a broader initiative to instil discipline among commuters and reduce accidents on city roads.
