Gajapati, May 1: A 20-foot-long king cobra was found under a bench in a school classroom in Raigarh locality of Odisha’s Gajapati district last evening.
The sighting caused panic among the school staff, who quickly called the Snake Helpline, a volunteer group that rescues snakes.
The rescue team arrived quickly and safely caught the venomous snake. Forest officials later confirmed that the snake was released back into the wild, keeping both the people and the snake safe.
Before it was found in the classroom, the snake was seen near the school grounds and nearby areas, but it was hard to catch.
When the cobra was spotted inside the classroom last evening, the school staff locked the room and contacted the rescuers. The rescue team took about an hour to safely capture the snake.
Luckily, the school was closed and no students were in the hostel at the time, so no one was hurt.
