Bhadrak, June 11: In a major operation against criminal elements, police on Thursday conducted an encounter in Bhadrak district, injuring a notorious criminal identified as Pappu.

According to police sources, Pappu sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during the exchange. He was initially admitted to a hospital in Bhadrak and later shifted to Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Three police personnel were also injured during the operation. The injured include an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), an Inspector and a Constable. Their condition is reported to be stable.

The encounter was carried out during a joint operation by personnel from Bhadrak Sadar, Rural and Puruna Bazar police stations under the supervision of Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout. The operation was launched as part of an intensified drive to crack down on criminal activities in the district.
