Bhubaneswar, May 20: As concerns rise following the deaths of two COVID-19-positive patients in Maharashtra, Odisha's health authorities confirmed on Tuesday that no new coronavirus cases have been reported in the state.
Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health in Odisha, stated that the state remains vigilant.
“So far, we have not detected any new COVID-19 cases. If any case emerges, the patient's sample will be sent for genome sequencing to identify the virus variant,” he said.
Across India, health officials are closely monitoring developments in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong, where COVID-19 cases have shown a recent uptick. However, central government sources emphasized on Monday that the situation within India remains under control.
Dr. Mishra urged the public to remain cautious, especially those with pre-existing health conditions.
“People with co-morbidities must continue to follow standard safety measures,” he advised.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s civic-run King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital addressed the recent deaths of two COVID-positive patients — a 14-year-old girl and a 54-year-old woman. In a statement, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clarified that both fatalities were due to co-morbid conditions and not directly caused by COVID-19. The hospital urged citizens not to panic.
