Bhubaneswar, July 5: The Water Resources Department has confirmed that there is currently no flood situation in Odisha, with all major river systems flowing well below danger levels. Chief Engineer Chandrasekhar Padhi stated that the water levels are stable and pose no threat at this time.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), no significant rainfall is expected across the state over the next week, further reducing the likelihood of floods.
At the Hirakud reservoir, the water level has reached 607 meters. While the level is gradually rising, officials have assured there is no cause for concern. Six sluice gates are scheduled to be opened on Sunday, but only for ritualistic purposes — not for releasing floodwaters. Any decision regarding water release will be taken after closely monitoring the levels of the Ib and other rivers.
Meanwhile, the opening of the Kalma gate is expected to cause a slight rise in the Mahanadi river. However, authorities have yet to take a decision on releasing water from Hirakud for flood control. The situation at the Rengali reservoir is also under continuous observation.
In Southern Odisha, the Rushikulya river at Purushottampur is flowing 5 meters below the danger mark, and the water level in the Bansadhara river remains low. The Indravati reservoir currently holds only 30% of its total capacity, as per the Water Resources Department.
Officials continue to monitor all key reservoirs and rivers across the state to ensure timely response if conditions change.
