Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: Odisha is expected to witness a noticeable dip in night temperatures starting October 15, with some interior regions likely to see a fall of 2 to 3°C by October 17. According to senior agricultural meteorologist Professor Surendranath Pashupalak, districts such as Kandhamal, Koraput, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are likely to record significantly lower night temperatures compared to the rest of the state. Dewfall and fog are also expected in these areas.
The weather is predicted to remain dry and clear across most parts of the state over the next week, with no major rain activity. However, light to very light rainfall is possible in coastal districts on October 13 and 14.
In a significant development, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the south Bay of Bengal around October 17. The system may persist over the sea for more than five days and could intensify. However, experts caution that it is too early to predict its path and intensity at this stage.
The Regional Meteorological Department has indicated that monsoon withdrawal may begin from some parts of Odisha within the next three to four days. On October 11, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput districts.
Looking ahead to the weekend, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely in parts of coastal and southern Odisha on Saturday and Sunday, with wind speeds ranging between 30 to 40 kmph.
In the past 24 hours, Balasore recorded 11.2 mm of rainfall, while Rayagada received 5.4 mm, according to official data.
