Neeraj Chopra Reclaims World No. 1 Ranking
Following a series of commanding performances on the international circuit, India’s two-time Olympic medalist, Neeraj Chopra, has officially reclaimed his position as the world's number one athlete in the men's javelin throw. The latest rankings updated by World Athletics show Chopra moving to the top spot, a testament to his remarkable consistency and drive.
Chopra now leads the rankings with 1,445 points, overtaking Anderson Peters of Grenada, who sits in second place with 1,431 points. He had previously lost the top position to Peters in September 2024, shortly after the Paris Olympics. The current rankings highlight a competitive top tier, with Germany's Julian Weber at number three, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem at four, and Czechia's Jakub Vadlejch in fifth place.
Chopra's ascent back to the top has been fueled by an exceptional 2025 season. He began the year with a victory at the Potch Invitational in South Africa and followed it up with a historic performance at the Doha Diamond League, where he crossed the coveted 90-meter mark for the first time with a throw of 90.23m. He continued his strong form with a second-place finish in Poland before securing back-to-back gold medals at the Paris Diamond League and the Ostrava Golden Spike this month.
Throughout this season, Chopra has consistently outperformed his main rival, Anderson Peters, in all their head-to-head encounters, extending his dominance. This return to the pinnacle of the sport not only reaffirms his status as a global icon but also sets the stage for exciting future contests, beginning with the upcoming Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru, where he is expected to compete against the world's best once again.
