New Delhi, August 16: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced that its parliamentary meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 9:30 AM, according to an official notification.

The meeting will be held at the G.M.C. Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building (PLB). All NDA Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been asked to attend punctually. The announcement was issued by Dr. Shiv Shakti Nath Bakshi, Office Secretary of the NDA Parliamentary Party.

In a related development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will convene its Parliamentary Board meeting on Sunday, August 17, at the party headquarters in New Delhi. According to sources, the meeting is expected to focus on discussions surrounding the NDA's candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election.

A senior party source stated, “The BJP Parliamentary Board meeting is scheduled for August 17, 2025, at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, with full attendance expected. Deliberations may include the NDA's nominee for the post of Vice-President of India.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other senior leaders of the BJP’s parliamentary board are expected to participate.

Earlier, on August 6, the NDA leadership unanimously passed a resolution empowering Prime Minister Modi and BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda to finalize the alliance’s Vice-Presidential nominee.

The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, 2025.

The vacancy arises following the resignation of Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, 74, who stepped down on July 21, 2025, citing health concerns. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, shared via the Vice-President's official X (formerly Twitter) account, Dhankhar wrote:
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

The Election Commission of India has since announced the schedule for the Vice-Presidential election. If contested, polling will be held on September 9, between 10 AM and 5 PM, on the First Floor of Parliament House.
