Moscow, May 9: Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, representing India at Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations commemorating the end of World War II, met Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow.
Seth thanked Russia for its consistent support in the global fight against terrorism, highlighting India’s appreciation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sharing photos from the event on social media, he wrote, “Honoured to meet President Vladimir Putin during my visit to Russia. Represented India at the banquet on the 80th Victory Day anniversary and conveyed our gratitude for Russia’s support in India’s fight against terrorism.”
The BJP MP from Ranchi was received in Moscow by Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar and Russian Defence Ministry official Major General Oleg Moiseyev.
Seth also held bilateral talks with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin. Discussions centered on deepening military and military-technical cooperation between the two nations.
“We had a productive exchange on enhancing defence ties through established institutional mechanisms. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular consultations and broader cooperation amid evolving global security challenges,” Seth noted.
Earlier in the day, the minister paid tribute to the soldiers of World War II at a memorial in Moscow.
Initially, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was expected to attend the event, but his visit was reportedly called off due to increased tensions between India and Pakistan following the launch of Operation Sindoor.
