Mortal remains of social activist Jyotsna Rani Das consigned to flames

Bhubaneswar. February 26: Mortal remains of social activist, Jyotsna Rani Das, mother of senior journalist Subrat Das, were consigned to flames at Swargadwar crematorium today. She was 85.

 Jyotsna Rani was the eldest daughter in law of eminent freedom fighter, Gandhi of Balasore, Nilambar Das and wife of Batakrushna Das, basic educationist and former deputy secretary of Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board.

 A scion of Zamindar family, she was wedded to a family of Gandhian ideals. She was doing social work along with the likes of Gujurati social worker Purubai, working for the well-being of orphan children. She worked diligently for flood victims of Kendrapara district under the leadership of the then Bhubaneswar MLA, Subhadra Mahatab.

 Jyotsna Rani breathed her last at a private clinic last evening and her last rites were conducted today. Her eldest son, Subrat Das, Consulting Editor (prameyanews.com) lit the funeral pyre. A pall of gloom descended in the capital city where she lived her olden days.
