Missing Pages in CBSE Class 12 Answer Sheet Spark Concern Over Evaluation Process in Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar, May 31:A case of alleged irregularity in the evaluation of a CBSE Class 12 answer sheet has surfaced in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, raising serious concerns about the transparency and accuracy of the examination assessment process.

The incident involves Ankita Acharya, a Class 12 student of Ranibhol Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) at Bireshwarpur under Barasahi block in Mayurbhanj. Ankita, daughter of retired Naval officer Prashant Kumar Acharya, sought revaluation after receiving marks that were lower than expected in the CBSE Class 12 examinations.

According to the family, the photocopy of the Physics answer script obtained during the revaluation process revealed significant discrepancies. Pages 14 and 15 allegedly appeared twice in the answer booklet, while pages 16 and 17 were completely missing. As a result, the answers written on those pages were reportedly never evaluated.

The family further claimed that content written on page 13 was also left unassessed. Instead, the examiner allegedly treated it as a repetition of an answer on the subsequent page and awarded no marks for it.

The matter has triggered concern among Ankita's parents and teachers, who have questioned the evaluation mechanism and sought accountability from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Expressing concern over the issue, Ankita's father Prashant Kumar Acharya said the missing pages have raised doubts about the integrity of the evaluation process. He questioned how two pages could be absent from the copy supplied to the student and sought clarity on whether the original answer script remains intact and whether any mechanism exists to retrieve and evaluate the missing portions.

The incident has intensified concerns regarding the reliability of answer-sheet evaluation procedures. Education stakeholders argue that such lapses can have a significant impact on students' academic records and future opportunities, particularly when examination results play a crucial role in higher education admissions.

The case has also renewed calls for stronger safeguards, improved verification systems and greater transparency in the examination and revaluation process to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Meanwhile, CBSE on Thursday announced that its post-result portal for verification and re-evaluation of answer books will be operational from June 1, 2026. In an official statement, the Board said the decision was taken to ensure a transparent and error-free process for students seeking verification and re-evaluation of their answer scripts.

CBSE stated that the move aims to uphold the highest standards of evaluation and provide a smooth and reliable platform for post-result activities. ( ANI)
