Bargarh, Aug 11: In a tragic turn of events, a minor girl who sustained severe burn injuries in Bargarh district earlier today has died while undergoing treatment at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur.

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain whether the incident was a case of self-immolation or if she was deliberately set on fire. Three separate teams have been constituted to probe the matter.

According to reports, the half-burnt girl was found this morning on a football field in Phiringimal village under the jurisdiction of Gaisilet Police Station. She was rescued in a critical state and immediately shifted to VIMSAR in a special ambulance.

Balangir Superintendent of Police, who is also holding charge of Bargarh district, visited VIMSAR today to review the situation and oversee the investigation. Despite efforts by the medical team, the girl succumbed to her injuries a short while ago.

Authorities are continuing their inquiry to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
