Rourkela, June 2: In a major breakthrough, security forces have recovered more than 2.5 tons of explosives hidden underground by Maoists in the dense Tirliposhi forest under Jareikela police limits in Jharkhand. The recovery was made during a continued joint search operation by Odisha and Jharkhand police forces, targeting Maoist hideouts in the Saranda forest region.

According to Rourkela SP, the operation is being carried out jointly by Odisha’s Special Operations Group (SOG), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Jharkhand Jaguar unit. The teams have intensified combing operations in response to recent Maoist activity in the area.

Authorities revealed that the explosives are part of a larger cache looted by Maoists from a stone quarry in Banko, located under K. Balang police station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district. The looting incident involved the theft of nearly 4 tons of explosives.

Earlier, on May 30, security forces had already seized over 2 tons of explosives from the same forest area. With today's fresh recovery of another 2.5 tons, the total seized quantity has significantly disrupted Maoist plans in the region.

Search operations are still ongoing across the Saranda forest, which spans parts of Odisha and Jharkhand, as security forces aim to dismantle Maoist supply lines and neutralize potential threats.
