Baripada, August 2: A devastating fire broke out late Friday night at Saree Mahal, a prominent textile store located at the heart of Udala Market in Mayurbhanj district, resulting in the destruction of goods estimated to be worth over ₹70 lakhs.
According to sources, the fire is believed to have originated due to a suspected short circuit. Smoke was first noticed billowing out from the shop’s closed shutters by a night watchman, who promptly alerted the shop owner and notified the local fire brigade.
Responding swiftly, the Udala fire department deployed personnel to the scene and launched firefighting operations. After nearly three hours of intense effort, the flames were brought under control.
Despite their timely intervention, the damage had already been done. The shop’s entire inventory, including sarees, silk sarees, and other valuable merchandise, was completely reduced to ashes.
No casualties have been reported, but the financial loss is significant. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and further investigations are underway to confirm the cause of the fire.
