Man thrashed to death in Bhubaneswar drug de-addiction center, probe on

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: A man was allegedly thrashed and killed in a drug de-addiction center here in Bhubaneswar on Monday. 

The deceased has been identified as Kalu Nayak of Jharana Sahi. 

According to the report, Kalu who was addicted to alcohol was admitted in ‘Swikar’ de-addiction center under Dhauli police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar three months ago. However, he was being tortured continuously and thrashed to death, allege his family members. 

“We were informed that his condition is not good, however later we found him dead. Since the day he was admitted to the center, he was being tortured. He wasn't even allowed to talk with family members.  However, on Monday he was thrashed following which he succumbed”, said the wife of the deceased. 

Being informed, Dhauli police reached the spot, sent the body for autopsy and detained the center owner for interrogation. 

Similarly in February this year, a 40 year old man was assaulted by the staff of a de-addiction center and succumbed. The man identified as Sarbeswar Behera of Patharabandha Basti was admitted to Sai Kripa drug de-addiction center at Bhotapada.
