Berhampur, Oct 22: A man was allegedly hacked to death by some miscreants in Khallikote block of Odisha’s Ganjam district last night.

The deceased was identified as K Padma Reddy, a resident of Komanda village. His friend Nrusinghanath Panda of Gudijhara village sustained critical injuries in the attack and is undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

According to reports, the incident took place near Badarampalli village under Rambha police limits when the duo was returning home in an auto-rickshaw. On their way, a group of miscreants intercepted their vehicle and attacked the duo with sharp-edged weapons.

The victims were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where Reddy was declared dead. Panda was later shifted to the MKCG Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

The cops have recovered the body and started an investigation into the incident.

Though the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that past enmity might have led to the murder.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
