New Delhi, Dec 13: A moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The tremor was recorded at 11:48:21 IST at a shallow depth of around 15 kilometres. Its epicentre was located at latitude 12.59° N and longitude 92.34° E, within the Bay of Bengal.

Given its offshore location and moderate strength, no reports of damage or casualties were received. However, officials noted that shallow earthquakes can be felt more intensely near their epicentre and said the situation is being closely monitored.

In a post on social media platform X, the NCS shared details of the event, stating: “EQ of M: 4.4, On: 13/12/2025 11:48:21 IST, Lat: 12.59 N, Long: 92.34 E, Depth: 15 Km, Location: Bay of Bengal.” The agency confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued, though coastal regions have been advised to remain vigilant.

The quake occurred a day after a much stronger 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit the North Pacific Ocean. While the two incidents are unrelated, they reflect ongoing seismic activity across different parts of the globe, highlighting the dynamic nature of tectonic movements along major fault lines.
