Balasore, Jul 3: A young man has been booked by police for allegedly making obscene phone calls and repeatedly expressing unsolicited romantic advances to a married woman in Odisha's Balasore district.
The accused has been identified as Janmejaya Sahu alias Banga, son of Laxmikanta Sahu and a resident of Purushottampur village under Kakhada Panchayat in Bhograi block. Based on a written complaint filed by the woman, Bhograi Police have registered a case against him and are questioning him as part of the investigation.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 4 pm on June 30, when the accused allegedly called the woman, a resident of Hatsarisha area under Kakhada Panchayat. During the conversation, he reportedly claimed to be calling from the Chandaneswar Police Outpost and asked her to immediately come to Digha, saying that a vehicle would be sent to pick her up.
The woman further alleged that the accused made several inappropriate remarks and used obscene language during the call. She later informed her husband about the incident, following which they verified the phone number and allegedly identified the caller as Janmejaya Sahu.
Subsequently, the woman lodged a written complaint with the police. Acting on the complaint, Chandaneswar Police Outpost in-charge Ban Bihari Satpathy detained the accused for questioning.
Police have registered a case (No. 205/26) against the accused and launched an investigation into the matter. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
